The Ph. D. Program

    The first group of the PhD Program students were accepted in 2016 to study and research in the Teaching of the Arabic Language for non-Arabic Speakers. The Program aims to qualify the Master’s Holders of the Institute’s Graduates, and other Graduates of other Universities, to obtain a Doctorate’s Degree in Teaching the Arabic Language to non-Arabic Speakers. The Program is scheduled to expand, in the near future, to include all other Arabic Language Sciences as well as Educational Sciences (PhD in Curricula and Teaching Methods).

The Program aims to achieve the following:

  • To prepare Specialists with High Scientific Degrees to carry the burden of Teaching and Publishing the Arabic Language and to prepare its Teachers.
  • To prepare Studies and Researches related to the Spreading and Teaching the Arabic Language.
  • To fulfill the desire of many Universities and other Educational Institutions, that work in the field of Teaching Arabic, to qualify their Professors Scientifically by obtaining a PhD in Teaching Arabic from the Institute.
  • To meet the increasing demand for Professors Specialized in Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers with Postgraduate Degrees (PhD), and bridge the gap in this important educational field.
  • To fulfill the desire of the Institute Students to start a Doctoral Program at the Institute so that they can continue their Higher Studies, after the Masters.
  • To meet the desire of other University Students to allow them to study at the Institute and obtain a Doctorate Degree in Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers.
  • To provide Students studying this Program with a broad knowledge of Arab Civilization and Culture through the Educational Curriculum used to spread the language.

Features of the PhD Program:

  • The period of preparation for the PhD Degree in Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers at the Institute is Three Years. One and a Half Years of study period divided into Three Semesters. Each Semester consists of one Term of Fifteen Weeks. The duration of study in each Week is Twelve Hours. The remaining One and a Half Years are devoted to preparing the research.
  • During the Program, students receives extensive oral and written practical training in all branches of the Arabic Language, including Linguistic, Grammatical, and Rhetorical. The students are also trained in Arabic Language Skills, Curriculum Preparation, and Teaching Methods.
  • The Program requires that Students should be fully devoted to studying and not doing any other work.
  • After successfully completing the First Three Semesters, the students devote themselves to preparing a serious Scientific Research, to complete the requirements for obtaining a Doctorate Degree in Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers, according to the conditions, attached to this Program and set out in the preparation of the Research.

The PhD Program in Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers Admission Requirements:

  1. Obtaining a Master’s Degree in the Arabic Language or in its Teaching, or in Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers, from the Khartoum International Institute for Arabic Language or its equivalent; provided that the student holds a General Bachelor’s Degree with a Good Grade as a minimum in the “Arabic Language” or in “Education of the Arabic Language”.
  2. The Institute may require that, in accepting applications for the PhD Program, a number of Complementary Courses be completed from the previous stage in a period not exceeding Three Semesters, taking into account the following:
  • To pass the Complementary Courses with a “Grade” not less than “Good”.
  • The time period taken to pass the Complementary Courses is not counted within the period specified for obtaining the Degree.
  • In order to be admitted to the PhD Program for Research in Teaching Arabic to non-Arabic Speakers only, a Master’s Degree with an “Excellent Grade” from the Khartoum International Institute for Arabic Language is required.
