     In order to asses and improve the current language
programmes to suit students' needs, a self-constructed
questionnaire has been developed to gather information for
the study. The questionnaire is an analysis that uses
frequency counts and percentages. The responses were
tabulated according to major areas that emerged fiom the
answers. It is hoped that a suitable and improved Arabic
language course can be designed by identifllng the language
needs of the learners.
Background to the Study (Course description):

     This course is intended for undergraduate students who
are pursuing their degree studies in Arabic. The purposes are
primarily the literacy skills of research reading and extended
writing with a secondary focus on formal oral presentation
skills.
